Labelling

Correct labelling of food products is an important element of communication which informs consumers about the product. The key rule of food legislation is to provide the consumers with information that enables making a conscious decision on choosing a food product and doesn’t allow consumer deception.
General requirements on food product labelling are standardised by the Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 on the provision of food information to consumers. The basic requirement regarding labelling ensure an honest, clear, and easy to understand information for the customers.

Any misleading practices are forbidden, especially those which can disorientate the consumer in terms of:

• characteristics,
• ingredients,
• amount,
• durability,
• country or place of origin,
• methods of production,
• ascribing the characteristics that product does not have,
• certain characteristics that are actually shared by all similar foods.
